What do we offer?

Whatever the event, at Southsea Hall Hire we will set up our flexible space for you, whether you want seating, tables or a dance floor. All facilities are on the ground fall which is fully accessible for wheelchairs.

Our licensed bar is fully staffed and we also have a live music licence until midnight every night. We offer buffet food but you have the option to provide your own food or hire your own caterer.

And don’t worry about the morning after – a cleaning service is included in the price.

Southsea Hall Hire is a discreet function suite in the centre of Southsea. Part of the Southsea Waverley Bowling Club, we are a friendly club that has been part of the continuity of Southsea’s story. Bowls have been played on this site since 1924 and the hall continues to host a lively and active sports club.

We have a license to stay open until midnight every night of the week.

·       What is the maximum number of guests you can accommodate?

We can take a maximum of 120 people.

·       How much does the hall cost to hire?

Evenings start at £195 and wedding reception hire starts from £375. Please ring us with your requirements for a quote.

·       Can I bring my own food?

Yes you can, but we can provide a buffet or bring in a caterer if you prefer. Please ask us about our prices.

·       Is there parking?

Parking is on-road only

·       When is the hall available? We take bookings for 7 Days a Week

·       How do I book? Please ring Rob Lewsley on 07948 724890 and reserve the date you want with a £50 refundable deposit. Dates get booked quickly and we are already taking reservations for 2023, so book early to avoid disappointment.

Our history

Southsea Hall Hire invites you to hire a historic building with royal connections.

Bowls has been played on this site since the club, originally named the Saxe-Weimar Bowling Club, was first founded in 1896. Its original name came from Prince Edward of Saxe-Weimar; born into a German royal family, Prince Edward was related to our King William IV and served in the British Army during the Crimea War. He was Lieutenant Governor of the Portsmouth Garrison 1878-84 and died in 1902.

The club was renamed the Southsea Waverley Bowling Club in 1924 when the current hall was opened by the Mayor of Portsmouth.

The club has been part of the fabric of Southsea life for more than a century, playing host not only to sporting matches but also the most important events in the lives of the people of Portsmouth and Southsea – birthdays, weddings, celebrations and wakes. We now invite you to add your own special event to that long story.
